I love spending my time at farmers market. One of my favorite weekend activities is to visit farmers market to either do my grocery shopping and/or sitting there enjoying the music and the good atmosphere.
Farmers market indeed offers customers with fresh and delicious fruits and vegetables. Sometimes farmers offered it with lower price but sometimes it can also be higher like in the case of Ferry Building Farmers Market (I totally think they are overpriced). The fruits and the vegetables that the farmers sell in these farmers markets are strictly seasonal so sometimes I find it hard to find all my grocery needs from these farmers markets. Interestingly, farmers markets continue to open and seem to exist in many neighborhoods in San Francisco. About a month ago, the Stonestown Farmers Market had a grand opening that was attended by quite a number of people. According to United States Department of Agriculture, instead of decreasing, farmers market is increasing in number. My next question will be: why there are more farmers markets today? It may be because people resort to a greener and healthier way of life.
There are growing numbers of green movements. Last October, I wondered around the Ferry Building when suddenly I heard people crowd in front of the building and carried signs with 350 on it.
There are growing numbers of green movements. Last October, I wondered around the Ferry Building Farmers Market. When I went outside, I saw people crowd in front of the building. They carried colorful signs with 350 written on it. It turned out the 350. org organized a protest to push for the policymakers to reduce the carbon concentration in the atmosphere, back to 350 parts per million. Our greener way of life can be argued as one of the reasons why there are more people looking for locally grown products that are organic.
Besides that, our healthier way of eating also boost the number of farmers markets around us. People want organic food and although it is usually more expensive, people said it is worth it because after all, our health is expensive. For example, if children are exposed to pesticides contaminated food, they are seven times more likely to get a kind of cancer called non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Thus, to a certain extent, it can be understood why farmers market gains a lot of popularity recently. There was a farmers market opened near the White House recently in which Michelle Obama came to visit.
